Game 1 – Detroit Redwings & San Jose Sharks The second round playoffs have now begun. The season comeback Detroit Redwings eliminated easily beats Phoenix in the series winning game 6-1 last Tuesday. They will now face the top seeded western conference San Jose Sharks on April 29, 2010. The San Jose sharks took care of the Colorado Avalanche in six games of the first round in the Stanley Cup playoffs. The next round for Detroit will definitely be a challenge. Detroit fell through the rankings during the season, but maybe they now have the Stanley Cups in their grasp. The 2 time Stanley cup finalists has always proven that they are just as good as anyone in the Western Conferences despite their pitfall during the regular season with a Number 5 seed position. Finally, their star players really took the Coyotes by the throat when the fully charged Pavel Datsyuk to Henrick Zetterberg combined with 4 assists in the clincher game. But, it’s not just their star players, even the rookie goalie, jimmy Howard did his part as he was clutch when the team needed him to be. GAME UPDATE:
Montreal Canadiens WIN GAME 7
The Canadians did it! They forced the top ranked Washington Capitals to a game 7. Could then be the end of the top seeded ranked team in the playoffs? They seemed unstoppable in the regular season, but Montreal has held on and has the chance of moving onto the next round. Halak was definately the star in Game 6 as he made 53 saves off the hard hitting Washington Capitals on Monday night. Micheal Cammaleri did his own work scoring not just once, but twice in the first period to help the Canadiens sustain thier lead in the game. Everyone had been impressed with Halak, afterall he was the star of the game.
With such a hot goalie, will Montreal Canadians have what it takes to force the Capitals out of the playoffs? Anything is possible in any playoff series. Nothing is ever predictable in NHL playoff hockey. Game 7 is on Wednesday night at Washington. The capitals get thier home ice advantage. Let’s hope Alexander Ovetchkin and the Capitals can break through the brick wall they call Halek and celebrate a home playoff win to advance to the next series.
